TERMS

The deal, in plain words.

Last updated: 8 October 2026

The short version

  • Scalapod is free while it is in beta. Prices, plans and what is free or paid can change at any time.
  • Nothing we say about prices or free features, here, in the app or anywhere else, is a promise that it will stay that way.
  • It is a beta. Things may be rough, change, or stop working while we fix them.
  • The lessons are ours (the facts follow an open source we credit). Share screenshots freely, don't republish lessons wholesale.
  • Questions: hello@scalapod.com.

Who we are and what this covers

These terms cover the website at scalapod.com and the Scalapod app, both made by Centaur Creations, Pune, India. By using either, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use them.

The beta

Scalapod is pre-release software. It may have bugs, it may change without notice, and we may pause or end the beta at any time. We will try to keep your progress, but during a beta we cannot promise it, so please don't rely on Scalapod as your only record of anything.

Everything that is unlocked or free during the beta, including case studies, is unlocked for the beta only. When the beta ends, some of it may need a paid plan.

Android testers may be invited through Firebase App Distribution or Google Play testing, which have their own terms from Google.

Using Scalapod

  • Use it for yourself, to learn. Don't resell access or wrap it in another product.
  • Don't try to break it, overload it, scrape it, or get around any limits.
  • Keep your account details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else is using them.
  • You must be at least 13 to create an account.

Prices, plans and what is free

Scalapod is free during the beta. At any time, we may introduce paid plans (for example Scalapod Premium), set or change their prices, change what each plan includes, move lessons, case studies or features between free and paid, offer and end discounts or trials, or stop offering a plan.

Anything we say about prices, plans or free features, on this website, in the app, in emails, in posts or anywhere else, describes Scalapod when it was written. It is not a promise that it will stay that way, and if it ever disagrees with these terms, these terms apply.

If you pay for a plan:

  • The price and what it includes are the ones shown when you buy. A price change applies from your next billing period, never to time you have already paid for, and you will be told before it takes effect so you can cancel first.
  • Purchases made through Google Play or the App Store are billed, renewed and refunded under that store's terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your store account.
  • Except where the law or the store's policy requires otherwise, payments are not refundable, including for unused time.
  • Prices may include or exclude taxes depending on where you live. The store shows the final price before you pay.

Changes to Scalapod

We may add, change or remove lessons, case studies, features, rewards and the app itself, at any time and for any reason, including to fix mistakes, keep the content accurate or change our plans.

XP, levels, streaks, Packets and other rewards have no money value. They cannot be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged for money, and we may change how they work or reset them.

Content and credit

The technical facts in Scalapod follow the System Design Primer by Donne Martin, licensed CC BY 4.0. Our stories, drawings, quizzes, the name Scalapod and Pod the octopus are ours and may not be copied for another product.

You are welcome to share screenshots and talk about what you learned. Please don't republish whole lessons or pass them off as your own.

Your feedback

If you send us ideas, bug reports or suggestions, we can use them to improve Scalapod without owing you anything. We will thank you, though.

No warranties, limited liability

Scalapod is provided as is. We don't guarantee it will always be available, accurate or error-free. It is a learning app, not advice for running your production systems, and it does not guarantee any result, such as passing an interview or getting a job.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost data, lost profits or missed opportunities), and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us for Scalapod in the 12 months before the claim, or INR 1,000 if you paid nothing.

Ending your access

You can stop using Scalapod at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or end the app or a plan altogether. If we end a paid plan you have paid for, we will refund the unused part where the law or the store's policy requires it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute goes to the courts of Pune, Maharashtra. If you are a consumer somewhere with rules that give you more protection, those rules still apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms at any time. When we do, we update the date at the top. If a change affects what you pay or what your plan includes, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.

If you keep using Scalapod after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, stop using Scalapod and cancel any paid plan before the change applies.

The rest

If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part straight away, we have not given up the right to. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about Scalapod.
